DFEA2020 – Dependable and Flexible Electric Architecture 2020 was a large Swedish national project running from 2009 to 2012. The project goal was to enable functional growth in Green, Safe and Connected vehicles for the year 2020 and beyond, via the vehicle’s Electrical/Electronics architecture. The intended outcomes were reference architectures, development and verification methods as well as enabling technologies.
The project was funded to the tune of €8M by VINNOVA (The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems) and the project consortium. The consortium consisted of key players in the Swedish automotive industry: Volvo Car Corporation, EIS by Semcon, KnowIT Technology Management, Mecel AB, SAAB AB. The academic complement was from KTH and Chalmers University of Technology.
I made several contributions to DFEA2020 between 2010-2012. These included studies of automotive feature interactions, principles of autonomous system development as well as workshops and conference talks. One of the substantial contributions was in the form of a reference architecture for cooperative driving. The architecture is described in a peer reviewed paper published in the Journal of Systems Architecture. In April 2012, I gave an invited talk titled Vehicle Architectures for Increasing Autonomy at Elektronik i Fordon, Sweden’s premier conference for the automotive industry.
